I’d rather follow my heart than follow the science

Perhaps you feel the same.

When it comes to healing a wound, treating a symptom, or even navigating a personal crisis it’s getting harder to trust yourself and to trust that you know what you’re doing. The world is full of data, statistics, studies, experts, and expert opinions. And while all of the ‘information’ may have something to offer you in the form of insight or guidance, at the end of the day, it’s not wisdom.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

― Aristotle

I once heard Bernie Siegel, author of Love, Medicine and Miracles, discuss the challenge for those of us who practice healing outside of mainstream medicine. He said that while medicine may have scientific ‘evidence’ we have something more powerful – stories.

His words brought sweet relief. I’d been under the illusion that alternative healing modalities had to ‘compete’ with mainstream medicine to ‘prove’ themselves, which was not only foolish, it was impossible. They operate in completely different paradigms.

I somehow had fallen prey to the belief that statistics are more powerful than stories. One could argue that statistics don’t lie. But they also don’t necessarily tell the truth.

A story has a ‘life force’ within it. It carries an energetic transmission of information which enables us to feel into it and detect the truth or relevance in it for us. A story speaks to our hearts as well as our minds, helping us to make meaning in a very specific and profound way, a way that reading a statistic never could.

I may not be able to ‘prove’ how the healing works with statistics, but I do have stories. And I consider myself a storyteller.

I want to share the stories of the people I have had the absolute privilege to walk beside on their healing journey. I believe they illustrate more beautifully and powerfully than any bar graph ever could, the wisdom that lies within each of us, no exceptions.

We Are Wisdom is about telling stories to remind us:

  • Who we truly are.

  • Of our power and self-healing abilities.

  • That we have all the answers and wisdom we will ever need within us.

Above all, I hope these stories inspire you to trust in and value your own wisdom.

Enjoy!
